Sewing Notes

Here are some tips I recommend for a successful sewing project:

Fit and style

  • Choose a size that fits your bust measurement using the body measurements chart.
  • On the finished garment measurements chart, you can verify the length of the garment to see if it’s a good fit for your height. Itโ€™s smart to compare the length with something similar you already have in your closet. This top should stop above the hips.
  • If you want to adapt the length of your garment to your height, check this helpful tutorial here!

Fabrics

  • This pattern works only with non-stretch fabrics. Going for a lightweight fabric is a smart move to keep things from getting too bulky. I would also stick to natural fibers like cotton, linen, or silk that will keep you cool when it’s hot outside.

Cutting out

  • Give the fabric a wash before you start cutting! Just toss it in the wash and dry it like youโ€™d do for the finished piece. Keep in mind the fabric type and what itโ€™s made of so you choose the right cleaning method (like how hot the water should be or what kind of cycle to use…).
  • After you wash and dry the fabric, give it a good press to get rid of any creases. Just make sure your iron is set to the right temperature for the fabric. Generally, synthetic stuff like acrylic, spandex, or polyester should be pressed on low heat, while natural fibers like cotton, wool, or linen need that high heat to look their best.
  • When you’re set to cut the fabric, just fold it lengthwise right sides together. Make sure the fold is straight and doesnโ€™t twist up. If it does, unfold it and refold until itโ€™s nice and flat. Then, lay out the pattern pieces so the grainline runs parallel to the selvages.
  • Make sure you donโ€™t cut the notches too long; aim for them to be around 0.3-0.4 cm long (1/8โ€ณ).

Sewing

  • This top is super easy to sew and perfect for beginners! You don’t need any fancy trimsโ€”just grab a regular needle and some all-purpose thread, and you’re good to go.

Good luck with your sewing project!

This pattern is amazing! Highly recommend to try. I made a top and now i’m planning to lengthen the pattern and make a dress.

Hi, Iโ€™m attempting to make this and printed the pattern. On the PDF itโ€™s says that the seem allowance is 3cm. Does it mean that it is not 1cm?

I think that the back piece and small back and front facing inlays can be cut out with fabric fold and then no need to stitch them.

I will also attempt to make a dress out of it!

finally got around to making this cute little number. Instructions we’re easy to follow and overall, I felt like it was a beginner friendly project.

Personally, sizing was bigger than advised despite checking the sizing grid measurements and doing my own body measurements according to the advised sizing. Next time I’ll go a size smaller.

All in all, I absolutely loved this projectโ™ก

      Hi Tamaryn

Where did you find the instructions? I must be overlooking them as I can not find them. Thanks.

i printed the pattern on A4, cut and taped all the pieces, but there is no back piece. Is the back the same as the front?

is the front or the back supposed to have the seam down the center? The pattern has it on the back and darts on the front but all of the images have a seam down the front?

    Two questions:

    1. Where are the instructions? I like many others are unable to find them. Could you please highlight specifically where we can find them?
    2. The front piece says โ€œcut 1xโ€ but where is the other piece to the front? Because the back says cut 2x but the front only says cut 1x.

You cut on fold, so you only need one piece for the front. For the back you sew together the two pieces you cut out. Hope that helps. The only instructions i could find are the ones below the topic “Sewing Notes”. I think thats all there is.

That is because the front is cut on the fold, so it will be all one piece. As for the instructions, I can’t find them either

Hi! I’ve cut out most of the pattern pieces for size large. I’m looking at what I’m assuming is the back piece (already cut the front) and there are two sets of cut lines. Could you advise on which line is the correct one? Can’t wait to sew this up! Thank you so much!

I was doing well with this pattern until it was time to connect the facing to the front and back body. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to do it so that the seams of the straps are inside when the rest of the top is right side out. It’s probably just my brain not being able to visualize it correctly, but a picture or at least a more detailed explanation of that step would be WILDLY helpful.

Made this yesterday and it turned out SO CUTE! Thank you!

I didn’t follow the instructions (admittedly not my strong suit) so I sewed the straps together inside out and flipped them right way, then topstitched. Turned out great ๐Ÿ™‚

Love this tank! I cut both the front and back on the fold and sewed all the facings on right sides together before flipping everything right side out and sewing down the sides (with facings flipped up so seams ended up on the inside). I want to turn it into a dress – thank you for the pattern!
