Sewing Guidelines
Here re some tips we recommend for a successful sewing project:
Fit and style
- For this project, start by choosing a size with your bust. Then, if needed, widen or narrow the pattern at the hips if your hips correspond to another size. If your waist corresponds to another size, you can adjust the back elastic length, no need to adjust the pattern. Refer to the body measurements chart.
- On the finished garment measurements chart, you can also check the length of the jumpsuit and see if it’s suitable to your height. You may want to compare the length with a similar piece of clothing. The leg should be cropped above the ankle.
- If you need to shorten or lengthen the jumpsuit to achieve this look, slash the pants pattern above the hip notches, and near the hemline. Slash perpendicularly to the grainline, and spread to add length, or overlap to shorten. When you spread the pattern, fill in the gap with scraps of paper. Tape everything back in place.
- For the bodice, cut above the waist.
- Adjust by adding or removing more at the legs. For instance, try 1 cm (3/8″) above the hips and on the bodice, and 3 cm (1 1/8″) at the hemline.
Fabrics
- Be sure to use a breathable fabric that is summer-friendly. Linen, cotton, and viscose fabrics are your best bet. I would not recommend making this jumpsuit in polyester.
- Pick a lightweight but opaque fabric with a soft drape. This means that when draping the fabric, light should not go through it.
Cutting out
- Preshrink the fabric before you start cutting it out. To do so, wash and dry the same way you would with the finished garment. This means you should also take into account the fabric type and its content.
- Once the fabric is washed and dried, press it to remove all the creases. Be sure that you’ve set your iron to a temperature that is suitable to the fabric. As a rule of thumb, synthetic fibers (acrylic, spandex, polyester…) should be pressed at low heat, and natural fibers (cotton, wool, linen…) should be pressed at high heat.
- When you’re ready to cut into the fabric, fold it lengthwise, right sides together. The fold should not twist and lay flat. If it’s twisting, unfold and fold again, until it lays flat. Then, place the pattern pieces so that the grainline is parallel to the selvages.
- Be sure that you don’t cut the notches too much, they should be about 0.3-0.4 cm long (1/8″).
Sewing
- Don’t skip the stay-tape! They will prevent your armholes and necklines from stretching out. Plus, it will prevent way seams when installing the zipper. If you can’t get stay-tape, cut regular interfacing into bias-cut ribbons that are 1 cm (3/8″) wide.
- Don’t hesitate to try on the jumpsuit as you sew to ensure that the fit is suitable to your body shape. For instance, after you pinned the elastic at the back of the waist, you may try it and see if you need to adjust the length of the elastic.
- For the them, pin the folded edges in place first, then try them on to see if the length is good. You can readjust the hem allowance accordingly before you stitch it down.
Good luck with your sewing project!

Is it okay if I use your free sewing patterns and sell the clothes/garments I make from them? I want to start a sewing business and it would help a lot if I start with using patterns others made, instead of creating my own. Thank you
Thanks for asking! You can do whatever you want with the finished garments. There are no laws against it.
Thank you so much! I am really excited to use your patterns!
are the seam allowances included ?
Hi Sabrina. Yes, 1 cm allowance included.
Is 36-38 the bust size? Per the recommendation it would have been S/M choice for cutting. Could you clarify? I have a 35 bust and 39 hip and 30 waist.
Could you please clarify about 36-38. I am 35bust 30waist and 39hip. How should I choose size?
Do I have to make adjustments if I want to use a striped or floral motive?
Stupid question incoming! Where is the dart on the front? I’ve printed out the pattern and looked at the
original download but can’t see it!
I haven’t opened the pdf myself yet but judging by the illustration, the dart is on the front panel below the armpit. You might see little triangles denoting the dart (cut a little tiny slit or make a mark where the triangles, then match up the marks and that’s your dart)
that’s not a stupid question as a student I looked all over you have to use the pattern the dark are small lines going diagonally up at half way of the chest to give boob room.
Someone is selling your pattern on Etsy. It looks like they’re selling a few of them.

C’est super mal taillé, j’ai pris une taille XL, en l’assemblant je suis limite sur du 3xl.. c’est un casse tête pour la rétrécir.
Is anyone else having trouble printing the download? The pages in the document aren’t all the same size so the edges are being chopped off if I follow the printing instructions. Not sure what I am doing wrong, I want to make this, it looks so cute!
Hello Kate. The two first pages have margins and are indeed bigger. But it shouldn’t be an issue if you print at 100% scale. Be sure that the actual size is ticked. Are you using the browser version or desktop version?
a couple of problems…There is no mention of the armhole binding in your assembly process. In addition, for the back piece, you say that you need 2, but neither your nor the pattern mention if it should be cut on the fold. I find the instructions to be be scarce
Hi! I am currently making the pattern so this is fresh. Cut the neck binding on fold, give a little extra at the ends. For the arms, attach anytime in the process after sewing the sides. I chose to serge and hem rather than bind, too much bulk.
Isn’t easier to just have it lined rather than binding? It would also have a better drape on the body.
Hi, yes I updated this pattern recently and made the top double layer so it’s easier to make.
Is it possible to get the updated version?
Just download it, it’s in the blog post
Hello! I have printed off the jumpsuit pattern, but it is missing G1-can you please send it to me?

Hello again, eddies there not being a piece labelled G1, there is also H1 missing and I have two pieces labeled as H3.
Pls help! Thanks Jane
Bonjour, existe t-il un tuto pour le montage de cette combinaison svp ?
bonjour, impossible d’imprimer les pages jusqu’à 22, avez vous une solution ou une version même payante svp ? Les textes sont en anglais….. Merci. Cordialement
How big has to be the material (lawn etc.) for a size m?
I would like to use this pattern with My projector. Is it possible for you to send me the A0 version?
thanks
Question: I am stuck at the neck binding. Am I to connect the 2 pieces of neck binding and wrap from the front neckline all the way to the sides of the back pieces?
I am so excited to finish this sewing project.
Hi, I made this in a size M and I’m not sure if I’ve done something wrong but the body is slightly short making it uncomfortable to wear. I’m 162cm in height for reference.
I made this in a size M and I found it a bit short as well (162 cm) but I also usually lenghten the body when I sew jumpsuits. If i remember correctly you always add 5 cm for movement. I extended the legs (just above the crotch) with 13(!) cm and now it fits mich better + there is a positive ease for comfort!so try that:)
I can’t find the download link for the free jumpsuit pattern #UP1020. Could you please help? Thank you! 💕
Hi! What a beautiful pattern, thank you so much for sharing this for free. I was wondering if it would work with a jersey material?
Thanks in advance,
Chris (she/her)
Hiya
Is there anywhere I can get bit more information on assembling the pattern pieces please.
Hi! I would like to just sew the top part. does anyone know which pages of the pdf should I print just for the top? thank u <3
Hi, I made this yesterday and it turned out great!
Thank you so much 😁.
just finished this project. Love how it came out! What style jacket do you recommend for covering up that won’t look heavy with the wide legs?
Probably a blazer that goes long enough or a light sweater knotted at the waist
