Sewing Notes

Here are some tips we recommend for a successful sewing project:

Fit and style

  • Pick a size that fits your bust! Just take a look at the body measurements chart.
  • On the finished garment measurements chart, you can check how long the garment is to see if it works for your height. It might help to compare it with something similar you already own. This shirt is pretty long and should sit just below your hips, so you can tuck it into your pants!
  • If you want to adapt the length of your garment to your height, check this helpful tutorial here!

Fabrics

  • This shirt is super versatile, and you can make it with all sorts of lightweight fabrics. For the ultimate summer vibe, I’d say go for natural fibers like cotton, silk, or linen since they keep you nice and cool.
  • If you’re working with a printed fabric, you might want to grab a bit more than what is indicated in the instructions for that pattern matching.

Cutting out

  • Pre-shrink the fabric before you start cutting it out. Just wash and dry it like you would with the finished piece. Also, remember to think about what the fabric is made of and its type!
  • After you’ve washed and dried the fabric, give it a good press to get rid of all those creases. Just make sure your iron is set to the right temperature for the fabric. Generally, you want to use low heat for synthetic fibers (like acrylic, spandex, polyesterโ€ฆ) and high heat for natural ones (like cotton, wool, linenโ€ฆ).
  • When you’re all set to cut into the fabric, just fold it in half lengthwise with the right sides together. Make sure the fold doesn’t twist and is nice and flat. If itโ€™s all twisted up, just unfold it and fold it back until it lies flat. After that, place your pattern pieces on there so the grainline is lined up with the selvages.
  • Just make sure not to overdo it with the notchesโ€”keep them around 0.3-0.4 cm long (about 1/8โ€ณ). If your fabric tends to fray a lot, you might want to use some chalk to mark those notches instead.

Sewing

  • If you’re unsure about how to sew buttonholes, definitely take a look at your sewing machine manual. Each machine does its own thing!

Good luck with your sewing project!

The collar does not fit right. It’s too small for the size that’s indicated on the pattern. I tried size M with the collar XXL and still it’s not right.

      Hello Flor,
The collar is meant to be attached to the stand, not to the body. And the collar stand fits just fine :).

It’s a small loop you can add at the back of the neckline. Then, it allows you to hang the shirt on a hook.

My collar and collar stand are far too long (by a few cm) for the neckline. I used size M.
